We’re excited to announce Pacific Union International and Compass are hosting the return of the widely popular Architecture + Design Lecture Series, hosted by realtor and noted architectural author Bret Parsons, on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at Pacific Design Center, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A+D Lecture No. 42, the first of the relaunched series established in 2011, will feature television producer, author and historian Stephen Gee, who recently released Los Angeles City Hall: An American Icon.
At this open-to-the-public event, Gee will discuss his dynamic new book, which chronicles the development of Los Angeles and the history of Los Angeles City Hall, one of the world’s most iconic buildings. Designed by three of California’s most accomplished architects—John Parkinson, A.C. Martin and John C. Austin—the story of city hall captures the history created by this trio and is a bold statement about the city’s ambition.
Gee will take the audience through the dramatic saga of the building’s creation, including the battles that ensued as it rose to its full 28 stories in a city in which the law allowed fewer than half that number.
“So much history has been made beneath these muraled ceilings,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said. “So many people have walked these marble floors and transformed our city with their ideas, energy and passion. And that work continues today.”
Gee’s book showcases the architecture, artwork and details that define City Hall in more than 200 lavish images, blueprints and drawings—many of which have never been published. Gee also chronicles the recent effort to restore the building and the political fight that preceded its return to glory.
Be among the first to welcome back this lecture series and learn first-hand from Gee about Los Angeles City Hall: An American Icon, the most detailed study of the building ever undertaken.
